The Pricey Cherokee Fails to Knock the 2017 Escape off the top of the Mountain

There is No Smoke. No Mirrors. here at PineRidge Ford. If you’re looking for a quality SUV or Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV), we expect you to compare your options and make sure you’re making the right decision. That’s not always easy when you have so many options. We compared the 2017 Ford Escape to the 2017 Jeep Cherokee, one of the Escape’s main competitors. Both are popular SUVs, but in the end the Escape is the better value for your hard earned money.

Value

Value isn’t a cut-and-dry thing. What you’re going to be doing with your SUV/CUV dictates how valuable certain features will be to you. The Jeep Cherokee tends to be a bit more expensive than the Ford Escape with a starting price of $27,695 and the Escape starting at $21,599.

While the Cherokee has some slight advantages in off road capabilities, the Escape has a list of benefits that the Cherokee can’t touch. If you’re going to be doing any kind of intense offroading, you’re likely going to pass on both of these vehicles. Rest assured, though, if you’re ever stuck or in a jam, the 2017 Ford Escape can handle itself just fine.

Looks and Style

The Ford Escape has been one of Canada’s best selling SUVs for years. No longer a boxy SUV, the 2017 Ford Escape has a sleek, aerodynamic design, while still providing plenty of cargo space and rugged performance which are crucial for any SUV or CUV. In comparison, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee’s design is a bit more “unique” and according to Motor Trend, “controversial”. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Safety

This is where the 2017 Ford Escape dramatically pulls away from the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The Ford Escape received a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) while the Cherokee fell far short, barely getting a 4-star rating.  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Cherokee an overall “good” rating and some specific tests receiving only a “marginal” rating.

“The Cherokee's safety record is well below average.” - The Car Connection

The Car Connection gave the Cherokee a 3/5 rating, highlighting that the Cherokee only comes standard with a rearview camera in higher end trims.
